Minister of Housing and BNA Leadership Visit Poppies

Amsterdam’s first modular timber coliving building demonstrates sustainable, scalable, and community-focused housing in practice.

Poppies, MaMa Pioneers’ first modular timber coliving building in Amsterdam, recently welcomed Mona Keijzer, Minister of Housing, her team, and the leadership of the Dutch Architecture Association (BNA). The visit provided a first-hand look at how modular, circular, and community-driven housing can be realised in practice, highlighting Poppies’ relevance as a pioneering model for the future of urban living.

During the tour, co-founder and architect Marc Koehler guided the delegation, explaining how Poppies combines speed, quality, affordability, and circular construction. As a prototype, the project demonstrates the potential of modular timber construction to deliver sustainable housing at scale while fostering community and social connection.

Poppies illustrates how regenerative housing is possible today, including:

  • Reducing carbon emissions through timber construction
  • Applying circular principles at scale
  • Delivering accessible homes in a city facing housing pressure
  • Building community rooted in shared values

With Robin Wood, MaMa Pioneers’ second modular timber building, now under construction, the lessons from Poppies are being scaled to continue advancing innovation, sustainability, and community-driven urban living in Amsterdam and beyond.

Come home. Come to MaMa.
