Poppies in the Media: NRC

Award-winning modular construction demonstrates sustainable, circular, and community-focused housing in Amsterdam.

The Dutch newspaper NRC recently featured Marc Koehler’s Superwood concept, a circular industrial system for mid-range rental homes using prefabricated timber modules, which was recognised with the New European Bauhaus Prizesfor its potential to accelerate housing construction sustainably and efficiently.

Poppies, MaMa Pioneers’ first modular timber coliving building in Amsterdam, is a key example of this concept in practice. The prefabricated modules are built in the factory and transported to the site, where they can be stacked up to six storeys high, enabling faster, high-quality, and scalable construction. The project demonstrates how modular timber housing can combine affordability, sustainability, and community-focused design at scale.
